A return to arena shows for a band that I never really envisioned as an arena band is an interesting thing. However, I do openly admit that I am slightly out of touch with modern bands, but also have never really understood the popularity of “nu-metal” since it’s inception in the late 90’s and watching it get quite large over the years. That said, after hearing the bands latest release “From Zero,” I was pretty impressed with the direction the band was taking and that it felt like a solid departure from their nu-metal roots, as well as the introduction of Emily Armstrong on vocals I thought really added a different dynamic to the band that wasn’t there previously for me.
My first impression when walking into Golden 1 Center in Sacramento was the sheer scale of the stage and lighting tech. I’m not sure how I feel about the rectangular stage that’s 8 feet off the ground, which really does not give a great view of the band from any side if you’re on the floor, but I got the impression that their main goal was to provide a high quality lighting and visual show, which they did pull off in absolutely stunning fashion. The show matched with them playing an incredible amount of songs, and completely on point musically with a super energetic performance all around really allowed for an amazing night of music for fans of the band as they powered through twenty-seven songs that spanned their entire catalog.
